OUR CAMP: AN INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • What are the camp hours and location?

Our summer camp is located on the SDFAS campus at 6550 Soledad Mountain Road La Jolla, CA 92037. The camp is from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and extended daycare is available from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. (free of charge) and 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. We offer half-day camp from 9-12 only for 2-5-year-olds and from either 9 a.m.-12 p.m. or 1-4 p.m. for 6-17-year-olds.

  • How do I register?
  1. Registration and payment is available on line HERE. If your child is NOT REGISTERED AT SDFAS, please make sure you fill out the SDFAS WAIVER and EMERGENCY HEALTH CARD FOR K-8 or MEDICAL PACKAGE FOR PRESCHOOL (available to download from our summer camp section at the checkout page. An up to date copy of the immunization records is also required for all children.
  2. Full payment is required a week after the time of registration to secure your space.
  3. When your registration is complete, you will receive an email confirmation.
  • What are the camp dates?

We offer six weeks of camps beginning June 22nd through July 31st 2020. There will be no camp on July 3rd.

  • Is there a deadline for registration?

Yes, the deadline for registration is Friday, June 10th 2020. You may register after this date if space is available and a $75 late registration fee will apply per family.

  • Do you offer any discounts?

The price for a full time camp is $300 per week until April 30th. After April 30th the regular price of $320/week will apply for a 9-4 p.m. week. June 29th –July 2nd 2020, the price is $270 (no discount available for the shorter week). Half day from 9a.m.-12 p.m. for 2-5 years old, the price is $220. There is no discount offered on half day specialty camps except for Surf Camp.

  • What is the cancelation policy?

There is a $50 per week cancelation fee for canceling a camp prior to June 10th. No refunds will be made on or after June 11th except for medical reason.

SDFAS reserves the right to cancel any class due to insufficient enrollment. If SDFAS cancels a camp, you will get a complete refund or an opportunity to enroll in another camp (space permitted).

  • What to bring to Camp – Please label all of your child’s belongings.

For 2-5 year olds:

  • Lunch: order from Girard Gourmet or bring your own.
  • Drinks and/or water.
  • Sun protection and hat. Please apply sunscreen before coming to camp.
  • Medication, if needed, with directions and authorization form from the doctor.
  • Blanket, sheets, pillow and pillowcase or a sleeping bag for nap time.
  • A complete change of clothes.
  • Diapers & Wipes for non potty trained 2 years old.
  • A soft comfort toy if needed.

For 6-17 Y year olds:

  • Snacks, drinks and/or water.
  • Lunch: order from Girard Gourmet or bring your own.
  • Sun protection and hat. Please apply sunscreen before coming to camp.
  • Medication, if needed, with directions and an authorization form from your doctor.
  • Where is the drop off?
  1. For children ages 2-5 years, the parking lot is located in the back of the preschool.
  2. For 6-17 years, parking is located in the front of the school.
  3. On the first day of camp go to the sign-in registration table which is located on the main campus.
  4. After we check your registration is complete, take your child to the preschool area (2-5 years) or to the main playground (6 years & up) and instructors will direct you to either the classroom or the playground area.
  • Do I sign my child in and out every day?

Yes, parents or guardians are required to sign in and out every day.

For K-8th campers, there will be a sign-in binder with your child’s name (alphabetical order) located on the sign-in table at the entrance.

For 2-5-year-olds sign-in on the IPADs located on the preschool counters.

  • What is the daily schedule?

Camp Schedule:

8:30-9:00 a.m.: Before Camp Childcare

8:45-9:00 a.m.:  Campers Sign In

9:00-12:00 p.m.: Morning Camp

12:00-12:45 p.m.: Supervised Lunch and Recess

12:45-2:00 p.m.: Rest time for 2-5 year olds only

2:00-4:00 p.m.: Afternoon Camp for 2-5 year olds

12:45-4:00 p.m.: Afternoon Camp for 6-17 year olds

4:00-6:00 p.m.: After Camp Extended Care

  • What about lunch and snack?

Parents or guardians are required to bring snacks for their 6-17 year old children; for 2-5 year olds the snacks are included, water is available at school. We offer a daily hot lunch service from Girard Gourmet a local La Jolla catering company. The menu is available on our website, and the price per week is $25 (for 2-5 year olds), $27.50 (for 6 years and up) or $20 & $22 for the shorter week.

  • What about field trips?

There are no field trips for children 2-5 years old. Field trips for 6 year olds and up will take place either Tuesdays or Wednesdays (you will be notified by email). Please inform us in advance if you do not want your child to go on field trips.

  • What about photography release?

We will take pictures of your children. However, if you do not want your child in photographs, you will need to let us know. Pictures may be sent to you or  may be used in SDFAS publications (children will not be identified by names).

  • What time should I pick up my child for half-day camp?

Half-day campers must be picked up by 12 noon, otherwise an after-care charge will apply.

  • What is the policy for PK0 SDFAS children?

Children who are enrolled in PK0 during the regular school year will be allowed to join the summer camp for 2-3 year olds.

  • What is the potty training policy?

Children 3 years old or older MUST be potty trained before attending the camp.

  • Could my child attend camp even without having prior knowledge of French language?

Yes, we encourage children with no prior French to participate. The camps for 2-5 year olds are bilingual, French & English or Spanish & English. For 6 year olds and up, we offer a French Learner camp (no French knowledge required) which is a full immersion camp in French. We also offer a Bilingual Camp (French & English knowledge required). If we see that children do not understand we will translate into English. All our instructors speak French and English. Some camps are also taught in Spanish or Chinese.

  • Extended Care 

Extended care (EC) is optional and is organized as a service for parents. Parents/guardians are required to check the student out with the EC staff.  The person who picks up the student must be on the authorized pick-up form and must be prepared to show ID. There is no extended care prior to 8:30 a.m. We offer free extended care in the morning from 8:30-9 a.m. The fee for extended care in the afternoon is $10/hour. You will have to select the EC options when you register for the summer camp. You have to register for the whole week. SDFAS will invoice you if you didn’t register for extended care and do not pick up your child on time. After 6 pm the parent/guardian will be billed at $5 per minute. If your child is still present at 6:00 p.m. the staff will call the parents or guardian. If they cannot be reached, staff will call the emergency contacts. If no one can be reached, the extended care staff will call Child Protective Services (858) 560 2191.

The options are:

  1. Extended care 4-5pm, 5 days ($50.00) or short week 4 days ($40.00)
  2. Extended care 4-6pm, 5 days ($100.00) or short week 4 days ($80.00)
